Chapter 12 - The Rivas-Lu Trust

Mr. Lu gave a sharp, definitive nod to his assistant, Victor.

"Show them the rest," the patriarch commanded.

Victor immediately tapped his tablet. The massive digital screen behind us, which had just shown Valeria’s damning criminal acts, shifted once more. A series of incredibly complex, highly classified legal documents appeared.

There were faded signatures, heavily stamped notary seals, and a massive, binding legal framework titled: The Rivas-Lu Beneficiary Trust.

Carlos Mendes pushed his way to the front of the crowd, his face purple with disbelief. "This is impossible! That document cannot possibly still be valid!"

Alejandro didn't even flinch. He stared Mendes down with cold authority. "It is valid. It has been valid for over two decades."

Valeria frowned, her eyes darting frantically over the dense legal jargon on the screen. "What is that? What does it mean?"

It was Mr. Lu who answered her, his voice booming with the weight of absolute law. "It is the ironclad agreement I signed with Clara's mother on her deathbed."

My hands shook violently. I looked at the photograph of my mother, then up at the towering screen. "An agreement?"

"Your mother refused any cash compensation," Mr. Lu explained, looking directly at me. "She knew that sudden wealth would make you a target. She wanted only one condition: that you would be financially indestructible when you came of age. Therefore, an irrevocable trust was established in your name. It absorbed a percentage of the most lucrative Lu assets, compounding quietly for over twenty years. It was designed to automatically trigger upon your marriage into the family."
