Chapter 13 - The Hostile Takeover|

A month later, the annual New York Tech & Innovation Summit was held at the glass-fronted Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan.
It was the most prestigious business gathering of the year, attended by billionaires, venture capitalists, and global media outlets.
Matthew Hayes sat in the back row of the audience, wearing a cheap, off-the-rack suit. He had lost his mansion, his luxury cars, his company, and his social standing. He was broke, disgraced, and desperate, clinging to the hope that some minor investor would give him a second chance.
On the main stage, the spotlight illuminated the podium.
Julian Sterling stepped up to the microphone, looking striking in a navy tailored suit. The entire auditorium went dead silent out of sheer respect for the financial titan.
"Good morning," Julian’s powerful baritone echoed through the speakers. "Today, I am proud to announce the restructuring of Sterling Global’s technology portfolio. We have officially acquired one hundred percent of Hayes Dynamics."
Audience members gasped, whispers rippling through the crowd.
In the back row, Matthew gripped his chair, his face pale with humiliation.
"Under our new management," Julian continued, his eyes sweeping across the auditorium, "the company will be renamed Grace Innovations. Fifty percent of all annual profits will be permanently directed into a private trust for maternal health and domestic abuse survivors."
The entire room erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
Julian stood tall at the podium, unbothered by the flashing cameras. He looked toward the VIP wing near the stage.
Standing in the shadows was Elise. She wore an exquisite sapphire silk gown that hugged her restored figure, her brown hair styled in elegant waves, looking healthy, radiant, and powerful. In her arms, she held tiny Grace, who was sleeping peacefully under a velvet blanket.
Matthew looked across the auditorium and caught sight of his former wife.

She looked more beautiful, more regal, and more unattainable than she ever had when she was married to him. And she didn't look at Matthew once. She looked at Julian Sterling with eyes filled with absolute trust and adoration.
Matthew realized, with a soul-crushing certainty, that he had traded gold for dirt, and he would spend the rest of his life drowning in the ruins of his own choices.
