Chapter 19 - Handcuffs and Tears

Absolute chaos erupted in the living room.
Brenda started screaming, demanding to know what Marcus was doing there. Oscar instinctively took a massive step backward, raising his hands in surrender before the police had even spoken a word.
Luke, completely panicking, tried to play his final, pathetic card. He rushed toward me, his hands outstretched in a pleading gesture.
"Hannah, honey, please!" Luke begged, his voice cracking. "What are you doing? We're married! We’re family! This is just a huge misunderstanding!"
"Don't touch me," I snapped, stepping back. "You forged my signature for $2.2 million, Luke. You stole from my business. You sold me out to appease your psychotic mother."
The lead detective stepped forward, flashing his gold badge.
"Luke Carter, Brenda Carter, and Oscar Vance," the detective announced, his voice booming through the apartment. "You are all under arrest for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, identity theft, and grand larceny. You have the right to remain silent, which I highly suggest you do."
Chloe began sobbing hysterically as the officers forcibly pushed Oscar against the wall, slapping cold steel handcuffs onto his wrists. Brenda fought like a wildcat, screaming obscenities at Marcus, blaming him for everything, right up until the officer forced her head down and shoved her into the hallway.

As they cuffed Luke, he looked back at me one last time, tears streaming down his face. He finally realized that the woman he thought was weak had just single-handedly dismantled his entire life.
I didn't blink. I didn't cry. I just watched them drag the trash out of my house.
