Chapter 10 - Drained Accounts

I spent the entire afternoon sitting at Maya’s kitchen table, surrounded by piles of printed bank statements, tax returns, and legal documents. Maya had helped me secure an emergency meeting with a ruthless financial attorney, who had instructed me to pull every single record attached to my social security number.
What I found made the forged loan application look like child's play.
A month earlier, Luke had secretly opened a joint financial account using our marriage license and my stolen identification documents. He had then systematically initiated transfers from my private business account—the account where I received payments for my high-end interior design projects.
Tens of thousands of dollars had been quietly siphoned away while I was busy agonizing over color palettes and custom furniture deliveries. The money had been moved into the joint account, and from there, it was immediately wired to an LLC registered under Brenda and Chloe's names.
They had been bleeding me dry while demanding I cook them dinner and wash their dishes.
"This is a coordinated syndicate, Hannah," Maya said, looking over my shoulder at the highlighted bank statements. "They didn't just snap last night. They've been planning to completely ruin you for months."
I leaned back in the chair, rubbing my temples. My husband hadn't just failed to protect me from his family's bullying. He was the inside man facilitating my financial execution.
My phone vibrated on the table. It was Luke calling.

I stared at the screen, a cold, calculating fury replacing the last remnants of my heartbreak. I tapped the green button and put the phone on speaker.
"Hello, Luke," I said.
