Chapter 2 - THE TRAP IS SPRUNG|

The heavy wooden door of the ICU burst open with a violent bang.
"Step away from the patient! Hands where we can see them!" a harsh voice bellowed through the room.
Adrian jerked back, throwing the pillow aside in sheer panic. Three men in plain dark suits rushed into the room, their movements sharp and military. Before Adrian could reach for the pocket of his tailored coat, two of the men tackled him against the stainless-steel medical equipment trolley.
Trays of syringes and bandage rolls clattered noisily to the floor.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Adrian shrieked, his voice cracking as his arms were violently twisted behind his back. "I’m her husband! She’s dying! Get your hands off me!"
The third man—a tall detective named Marcus, whom I’d hired two weeks before my "accident"—stepped forward calmly. He lifted a high-end parabolic directional microphone and a sleek smartphone displaying an active digital recording.
"Adrian Prescott," Marcus said, his voice as cold as ice. "We recorded every single word. The stairs. The insurance. The pillow. It’s all right here on high-definition audio and video."
Adrian’s breath hitched. The color drained from his face until he looked as pale as the hospital bedsheets. The polished liar had finally run out of polished words.
"You framed me..." Adrian choked out, staring at the flashing red recording light on the phone. "Hannah... you set me up!"
I lay in my cast, taking in huge, painful gulps of cold hospital air. A faint, bitter smile tugged at the uninjured corner of my lips.
"Numbers don't lie, Adrian," I rasped out softly through my bruised throat. "And neither do wires."
The investigators dragged him toward the door in handcuffs. But just before they pulled him out into the hallway, Adrian stopped struggling. He slowly turned his head toward me.

The panic in his face suddenly vanished, replaced by an unsettling, sinister grin.
"You think you won, Hannah?" Adrian whispered, his eyes wide and dark. "You still don't understand. I wasn't the only one who wanted you dead."
