Chapter 18 - THE LIVE CONFESSION|

The screen of the laptop lit up, displaying a high-definition video interface.
Victor frowned, his eyebrows knitting together. "What is this? Where are the database files?"
Suddenly, the webcam light on the laptop turned a solid, glowing green.
"Welcome to the morning news, Victor," I said calmly, leaning back against my crutches.
Behind Victor, a massive 85-inch television mounted on his office wall automatically turned on. The screen displayed the live broadcast of the Chicago Tribune morning news, anchored by Sarah Lin.
"We interrupt our regular programming for a breaking special report," Sarah’s voice echoed loudly through the room. "We have received verified forensic documents proving that Governor Victor Vance is the mastermind behind Erebus Holdings—a multi-billion dollar criminal syndicate involved in money laundering, political bribery, and attempted murder."
Victor’s face went completely white. "What did you do?!" he screamed, lunging toward the laptop to slam it shut.
"It’s too late, Victor," I said, a cold smile breaking across my face. "That laptop isn't just opening the drive. It’s a live streaming relay connected directly to every major news network, the Department of Justice, and the FBI's cyber division. Every word spoken in this room for the last three minutes has been broadcast to four million people live."
Uncle Richard gasped, dropping his whiskey glass onto the Persian rug, where it shattered into pieces.

"You bitch!" Victor roared, pulling a nickel-plated revolver from his desk drawer and pointing it directly at my chest. "I’ll kill you right here!"
"Go ahead," I said, stepping forward onto my broken legs, staring down the barrel without a single trace of fear. "Shoot me on live television. Prove to the entire world exactly what kind of monster you are."
