Chapter 20 - An Unwritten Horizon

|

By nightfall, Swiss federal authorities had secured the Vanguard Global offices, placing Marcus Vance under arrest for international racketeering and maritime sabotage.

The Sterling empire stood more powerful, secure, and dominant than ever before.

Later that evening, Julian and I stood on the balcony of a luxury hotel overlooking Lake Zurich. The city lights flickered against the dark, tranquil water, reflecting a night sky full of brilliant stars.

Julian raised his glass of champagne toward me.

“To the Chairwoman who conquered an empire,” Julian said softly, his dark eyes filled with genuine warmth and admiration.

I clinked my glass against his. “To partners who stand shoulder-to-shoulder.”

We drank softly, enjoying the quiet triumph of the evening.

For the first time in years, I felt a deep sense of peace. I had reclaimed my life, destroyed the men who tried to break me, and built an empire that protected thousands of innocent lives.

Suddenly, my private phone buzzed in my clutch purse.

I pulled it out. The screen displayed an unlisted international number from an encrypted satellite line in Eastern Europe.

I swiped the screen to answer, placing the phone to my ear.

“Victoria Sterling,” a calm, gravelly male voice spoke over the line.

“Who is this?” I asked, my tone instantly dropping into sharp focus.

The voice chuckled softly—a low, chilling sound that sent a quiet shiver down my spine.

“You handled Ethan and Marcus remarkably well,” the voice murmured smoothly. “They were mere distraction pieces on the board. But you should know... the real war for Sterling Global hasn't even begun yet. We’ll be seeing you soon, Victoria.”

The line went dead with a sharp click.

Julian looked at me, noticing the sudden shift in my expression. “Victoria? Who was that?”

I looked out over the glittering dark waters of Lake Zurich, a quiet, dangerous smile slowly appearing on my lips.

I slipped the phone back into my purse, met Julian’s eyes, and took another slow sip of champagne.

“It seems,” I murmured softly into the night air, “that someone else wants to test the Sterling legacy.”
