Chapter 2 - The Scissors and the Humiliation

|
The laughter of the thirty guests echoed off the vaulted ceilings of the mansion, stabbing into my ears.
Brandon didn't act alone. From the crowd, a woman stepped forward. It was Chloe, my executive assistant. She was wearing a stunning red silk dress—a dress I had designed and paid for.
Chloe walked up to Brandon, wrapped her arm around his waist, and kissed him deeply on the mouth right in front of me. The guests clapped and cheered.
"She looks so pathetic, Brandon," Chloe laughed, pulling away from him and looking down at me with pure disgust.
She reached into her designer purse and pulled out a long, sharp pair of silver fabric scissors.
My heart hammered against my ribs. "Chloe, don't do this."
"Hold still, boss," Chloe mocked.
She grabbed a fistful of my long, dark hair, yanking my head back so hard tears pricked my eyes. The cameras flashed wildly from the crowd, capturing every humiliating second of my degradation.
Sniip. Snip.
Clumps of my beautiful hair fell to the marble floor. She hacked away at it recklessly, destroying my dignity piece by piece while Brandon stood there, smiling like a monster.
"Make sure you get a good angle of this for the livestream!" Chloe called out to one of the board members. "The world needs to see the great CEO broken!"

I stared directly into Brandon’s eyes, forcing my tears back, pushing my anger deep inside my chest. He thought my silence meant I had surrendered. He thought the drugs and the humiliation had broken my spirit.
He had no idea that beneath the fog of the sedatives, my mind was racing, calculating, and counting every single second, waiting for one chance to survive.
