My mind was spinning. The sedative was fighting with the adrenaline, making me dizzy.
"You..." I stammered, looking at Brandon. "You planned this for three years?"
Brandon turned to me, his eyes completely hollow.
"Three years?" he scoffed. "Evelyn, I was planted in your life ten years ago. When we bumped into each other at that coffee shop in college? Arranged. When I helped you start your first tech company? Funded by Victor. Every kiss, every anniversary, every single 'I love you' was a carefully executed mission."
I felt like I was going to throw up. My entire adult life, my marriage, my success—it was all a manufactured lie constructed by a ghost from my father's past.
"The documents I asked you to sign tonight?" Brandon continued, kicking the leather folder across the floor. "They weren't transferring your companies to me. They were legally transferring your guardianship and biological medical rights to Victor Romanov's syndicate."
"Why?" I demanded, my voice breaking. "What does he want with me?"
Brandon opened his mouth to answer, but my father suddenly raised his hand, his eyes wide with a horrific realization.
