Chapter 26 - The Deposition Room

Forty-eight hours later, Victor sat in a high-security interrogation room at the county jail, wearing a orange jumpsuit and heavy wrist restraints. He looked battered from the crash, a white bandage taped over his left eyebrow.
Across the stainless steel table sat Samuel, Detective Singh, and me.
Richard Sterling, Victor’s attorney, looked utterly defeated as he sat beside his client, a thick stack of federal indictments resting in front of him.
“This deposition is being recorded for the grand jury,” Samuel stated coldly, tapping the digital recorder on the table. “Mr. Vance, we are offering a final plea agreement before federal racketeering charges are formally unsealed against you and Julian Sterling.”
Victor let out a raspy, dry chuckle. “Julian Sterling doesn't even know who I am.”
“We have the wire transfer logs, Victor,” Detective Singh interrupted, sliding a folder across the metal table. “Julian’s offshore accounts transferred two point five million dollars to your personal account three days before you forced Emily to sign over her trust fund rights.”
Victor glanced down at the paper. For the first time, his arrogant facade cracked wide open. The color drained from his face, leaving him looking sickly gray under the harsh fluorescent lights.
“Julian promised me immunity,” Victor whispered, his confidence evaporating into thin air.
“Julian Sterling lied to you,” Samuel said smoothly. “He’s currently on a private jet trying to reach a non-extradition country, while you’re sitting here facing twenty-five years in federal prison for attempted murder, grand larceny, and corporate espionage.”
I leaned forward, looking Victor straight in his bloodshot eyes.

“You tried to convince me I was crazy for three years, Victor,” I said, my voice steady and unwavering. “You tried to make me believe I couldn't survive without you. But look at us now. I’m standing outside the cage... and you’re never getting out.”
Victor stared at me, his lip trembling, unable to find a single word to weaponize against me.
