Chapter 19 - The Rescue Mission

|

Gunfire deafened the room. The Thorne guards fired wildly into the shadows, blinded by the muzzle flashes and the disorienting darkness.

Lorenzo moved with lethal, terrifying speed. He wasn't fighting like a boss directing a war; he was fighting like a man trying to save his very soul. He dodged behind a concrete pillar, returning fire with surgical precision. Every shot he took found a target.

Victor Thorne screamed orders, ducking behind a stack of wooden pallets.

Isabella panicked. The elegant socialite shrieked in terror as the battle raged around her. She grabbed a pistol from a fallen guard and turned toward Elvira, intending to finish the job before she fled.

Elvira saw the gun rising. She didn't freeze. She threw her entire body weight to the side, tipping the heavy metal chair over just as Isabella pulled the trigger. The bullet shattered the concrete where Elvira’s head had been a fraction of a second earlier.

Lorenzo saw the muzzle flash near Elvira.

A primal, earth-shattering roar ripped from his throat. He abandoned his cover entirely, walking straight into the open line of fire. Bullets grazed his jacket, but he didn't even flinch. He raised his weapon and fired a single, perfect shot.

The bullet struck the pistol in Isabella’s hand, violently shattering the weapon and breaking her wrist in a spray of blood and metal.

Isabella screamed, dropping to the floor, clutching her ruined hand.

Victor Thorne popped up from his cover, aiming his rifle directly at Lorenzo’s back.

Suddenly, the massive loading bay doors of the warehouse blew open. Rocco and forty heavily armed Moretti enforcers flooded into the room, their tactical lights blinding the remaining Thorne men.

“Drop your weapons!” Rocco roared over a megaphone.

The surviving Thorne guards threw their guns down instantly, realizing they were completely surrounded and hopelessly outgunned.

Lorenzo ignored the surrender. He ignored Victor Thorne. He sprinted across the concrete floor, dropping his weapon, and fell to his knees beside the overturned chair.
