Chapter 17 - The Trap Springs

|

Across the city, Lorenzo Moretti stepped out of his armored SUV at the shipping yards, wiping blood from his knuckles with a handkerchief. The Thorne loyalists had been cleared out. The territory was secure.

He pulled his cell phone from his pocket to call Elvira, eager to hear her voice.

Before he could dial, his phone rang. The caller ID was restricted.

Lorenzo answered, his instincts instantly on high alert. “Speak.”

“Lorenzo, darling. I missed your voice.”

Lorenzo completely froze. His blood turned to ice in his veins. “Isabella.”

“I have a little surprise for you,” Isabella cooed through the speaker. “I thought it was incredibly rude that you canceled our wedding, so I decided to throw a party of my own. I even invited a special guest.”

The sound of a muffled groan came through the line.

“Let her speak,” Isabella ordered someone in the background.

“Lorenzo! Don't come here! It’s a trap!” Elvira’s voice screamed through the phone before a dull thud silenced her.

Lorenzo’s heart stopped. The world around him tunneled. The cold, calculated mafia boss disappeared, entirely consumed by a blinding, demonic rage.

“If you touch one hair on her head,” Lorenzo roared into the phone, his voice shaking with absolute murder, “I will peel the skin from your bones while you breathe.”

“Such big words for a man who failed to protect his new toy,” Isabella laughed. “My father is waiting for you at the old shipyard on Pier 7. You come alone. You sign the territory over to the Thorne family. If you bring your men, or if you call the police, I put a bullet in the waitress’s brain. You have twenty minutes.”

The line went dead.

Lorenzo stared at the phone. He didn't scream. He didn't throw it. He turned to Rocco, who was standing nearby, watching his boss’s terrifying transformation.

“Rocco,” Lorenzo said softly, a deadly calm washing over him. “Isabella Thorne just took Elvira.”

Rocco went pale. “Boss, we’ll mobilize the entire syndicate. We’ll tear the city apart.”

“No,” Lorenzo commanded, pulling a heavy, fully automatic weapon from the trunk of the SUV. “She said come alone. I’m going alone. But you take the men, surround Pier 7, and wait for my signal. Nobody leaves that warehouse alive.”
