Chapter 9: The Expulsion
The cousins and in-laws who had been living it up in my home the night before began stepping onto the porch, their heads lowered in deep, burning shame.
No one dared to speak. No one wanted to admit to the police that they had gone through my private jewelry drawers, slept on my imported silk sheets, and treated my hard-earned life like garbage.
Trevor took a slow, pleading step toward me, his arrogant demeanor completely shattered.
“Honey, please listen to me... my mother pressured me into doing all of this. I never wanted things to go this far. I promise we can fix everything if you just let everyone stay until next week.”
I looked at him, and to my own surprise, I felt absolutely nothing. No lingering anger, no grief, not even the desire to yell. He was completely insignificant to me now.
“When you sent me to sleep in the garden shed, Trevor, you made a very clear choice about where you belonged,” I said softly.
The commander finished scanning the legal documents and turned to the shivering crowd.

“You all have exactly fifteen minutes to collect your personal items and vacate this property immediately. Anyone remaining after that window will be arrested for criminal trespassing.”
Evelyn burst into loud, theatrical tears. But I knew those tears weren't born from regret. They were born from the agonizing realization that her country club friends would soon find out the truth. The grand lie she had told everyone about her wealthy son buying a luxury villa in Aspen Creek had vanished in a matter of minutes.
