Chapter 8: The Legal Wall
Trevor let out a nervous, stuttering laugh, trying to pull the thin blanket tighter around his shaking shoulders.
“Allison, please stop making a fool of yourself in front of the police. We are legally married. This house belongs to me just as much as it belongs to you!”
Sarah Miller stepped forward, standardizing her position between Trevor and me. With practiced efficiency, she snapped open the heavy leather folder directly in front of his face.
“This property is registered solely under a private holding company owned entirely by Allison,” Sarah stated, her voice cutting through the crisp morning air like a razor. “The estate was acquired prior to the marriage and paid for exclusively in cash. Furthermore, all individual assets are strictly protected by the prenuptial agreement you voluntarily signed, Mr. Trevor.”
Trevor’s face lost whatever faint color it had left. He looked like a man standing on a trapdoor that had just been unlatched.
Evelyn lunged forward, her finger shaking wildly as she pointed at Sarah. “But he is her legal husband! That has to count for something!”

“He was her husband,” I replied coldly. “But that status is changing as we speak.”
Sarah handed a duplicate set of documents to the police commander. “The divorce petition was filed electronically early this morning, citing extreme emotional abuse, asset inflation, and financial exploitation. We have full digital logs of the verbal abuse, as well as explicit footage of Mr. Trevor displacing his wife to a garden storage unit.”
