Chapter 7: Dawn of Reckoning

Three municipal patrol cars drove slowly up the stone driveway, their roof lights flashing silently against the pristine glass facade of the villa.

Directly behind them came a black private security van belonging to the elite firm I had kept under retainer for years.

With a final tap on my phone, I remotely disengaged the lockdown on the front door. The heavy mahogany barrier clicked open, and Trevor immediately stumbled out onto the porch, wrapped tightly in a thin decorative blanket. He was pale, hollow-eyed, and violently trembling from the artificial winter I had subjected him to.

His jaw dropped as he saw the uniformed officers stepping out of their vehicles, followed immediately by my attorney, Sarah Miller, who was carrying a thick leather folder.

Evelyn barged out right behind him, her voice cracking as she shrieked at the lead officer.

“Officer! Thank God you are here! You must arrest this crazy woman immediately! She locked us inside the house and tried to freeze us to death!”

I walked toward the porch, my boots clicking firmly against the stone steps. My posture was perfectly straight, my expression entirely unreadable.

“Good morning, Commander,” I said to the lead officer, my voice smooth and controlled. “These people are currently trespassing on my private property and are refusing to leave.”
