Chapter 6: The Digital Paper Trail

Chapter 6: The Digital Paper Trail

At exactly 3:17 AM, the ambient temperature inside the house had dropped low enough to make them wrap themselves in my decorative throws.

I opened my secure email client and composed a message to my personal attorney, Sarah Miller. I attached a massive, indisputable digital care package:

  1. High-definition security footage of the family invading the villa.

  2. Audio files of Evelyn and Trevor's disparaging remarks.

  3. Time-stamped photos of my professional wardrobe stuffed into garbage bags.

  4. The explicit video of Trevor telling me to sleep in the garden shed while his relatives took my master bedroom.

I hit send. The digital paper trail was officially logged, encrypted, and resting in a legal vault before the sun even began to rise.

By 5:45 AM, the sky over Aspen Creek began to turn a pale, icy blue. I closed my laptop, placed it securely back into my bag, and stepped out of the damp cellar. I was wearing my elegant beige trench coat, my hair pulled back into a flawless, tight bun.

I didn't look like a woman who had spent the night in a shed. I looked like a reckoning.

At precisely 6:00 AM, the heavy iron gates of the estate slowly groaned open, breaking the morning silence.
