Chapter 1: The Luxury Ouster
The sound hitting my ears wasn't the peaceful rustle of Aspen Creek’s pines, but the blaring bass of a cheap country song.
I had just returned from Houston after twelve grueling days spent closing a massive cybersecurity contract for an international firm. My head was spinning with technical metrics, delayed flights, and midnight emergency calls. All I wanted was to reach my villa, kick off my high heels, open a cold bottle of wine, and sleep in my own bed.
I had bought this magnificent house entirely by myself with eight hundred thousand dollars paid in full, hard-earned cash.
Ten years of working without a single vacation.
Zero inheritances.
Zero help from anyone else in the world.
Every single wall, every designer lamp, and every tree in the manicured garden had been carefully chosen by me. It was my personal refuge.
But when I opened the front gate that evening, the driveway was blocked by massive pickup trucks. Several strange children were running wildly across my freshly mowed lawn. Empty alcohol bottles were scattered across my expensive marble dining table.

In the center of the chaos sat Evelyn, my mother-in-law, drinking coffee from my favorite hand-painted cup.
“Oh, Allison, you are finally here,” she said, not even bothering to rise. “We thought you were going to take a lot longer to finish your business trip. Trevor’s family needed some extra space because they are going through tough times. Do not be so incredibly selfish with your space.”
