The two society reporters didn't just write a small column; they published absolutely everything. The scandal dominated the front pages of the financial and social sections for weeks. The public humiliation my mother had tried to orchestrate for me had completely consumed her instead.
Within a month, Lucas, terrified of a lengthy trial, accepted a harsh plea agreement. It required mandatory state prison time and full financial restitution.
My mother, stubbornly arrogant to the very end, fought the criminal charges. She lost her massive trust income, was forced to sell off her prized jewelry and designer collections just to pay her defense attorneys, and was ultimately convicted. The bank’s audio recording and the security footage entirely destroyed her defense.
To make matters worse for her, Maria, our former housekeeper, bravely came forward and testified in court, confirming that my mother had aggressively threatened to blacklist anyone who tried to help Elena or contact me in Singapore.
