Chapter 12 - Locking the Trap

Within two hours, my legal and financial trap snapped entirely shut.
My attorney successfully petitioned a judge and obtained an emergency, sealed court order preserving all records at the main house, as well as the digital cloud backups of the estate's security camera footage. Lucas and my mother wouldn't be able to delete a single frame of their cruelty.
Meanwhile, the primary bank's fraud division aggressively traced the missing funds, linking the shell companies directly to my mother’s personal offshore accounts. The paper trail was absolutely undeniable.
Back at the hotel, the silence of my phone was finally broken.
As soon as the bank froze their platinum credit cards, my mother became incredibly reckless.
My phone buzzed constantly. She called me thirty-seven times in the span of an hour. When I refused to answer, she resorted to text messages.
Daniel, the bank is malfunctioning. Fix it immediately.
Why are you ignoring me? You are throwing a tantrum over a maid.
Bring Elena back to the house, apologize to me for your disrespect, and I may find it in my heart to forgive this massive embarrassment.
I didn't reply. I simply took screenshots of every single message, saving them to my encrypted server.
Then, Elena walked out of the bedroom, holding her own phone.
"Look at what Lucas just posted on Instagram," she said, her voice dripping with disgust.
I looked at the screen. Lucas had posted a photograph from our main living room. He was sitting with his feet up on my expensive coffee table, drinking a glass of my late father’s prized, fifty-year-old whiskey.

The caption read: New management taking over. Time to clean house.
I saved that photograph, too.
