Chapter 10 - The Counterattack Begins

Before I joined my father’s massive real-estate empire as a managing director, I didn't just sit in a boardroom. I spent nine long years working for a federal agency as a senior forensic accountant, investigating complex internal corporate fraud and money laundering.
My mother had always mocked that part of my career. She called it "boring math" and "counting other people’s pennies." She was so blinded by her own arrogance that she completely forgot one crucial fact: I was the architect who designed our company’s entire financial control system.
I stood up, my mind shifting from a grieving husband to a tactical investigator.
"Rest," I told Elena, kissing her cheek. "I have a few phone calls to make."
I walked out to the suite's living room and pulled out my laptop. I made three specific calls.
First, I called Dr. Thorne, asking him to securely email the medical documentation of Elena’s injuries to my private server.
Second, I called my personal attorney, instructing him to draft an emergency injunction.
Third, I called Priya Shah.
Priya was the senior partner at a massive law firm, but more importantly, she was the independent, blind trustee of my late father’s estate. She was the only person my father trusted as much as me.
"Daniel," Priya answered, sounding surprised. "I thought you were in Singapore until Friday."
"I came back early," I said, my voice all business. "Priya, I need you to pull the master ledger for the primary family trust. We have a massive, internal breach. My mother and Lucas have embezzled nearly seven hundred thousand dollars."

There was a sharp intake of breath on the other end. "Are you absolutely certain, Daniel?"
"I have the forged documents to prove it," I replied.
