Chapter 9 - CORNERING JULIAN|

At 1:45 A.M., rain poured over the glass facade of the Vale Meridian Logistics headquarters in downtown Chicago.
Inside the top-floor executive suite, Julian Vance was furiously stuffing passport documents, bearer bonds, and gold bullion into a leather duffel bag on his desk.
His burner phone buzzed against the polished mahogany. He snatched it up.
"Is she dead?" Julian barked into the receiver. "Did the truck finish her?"
"She's in a coma," a digitized voice replied from the speaker. "But Adrian knows. He left the hospital twenty minutes ago with his private security team. Get out now."
Julian slammed the phone down, his sweat-drenched face turning pale. He grabbed the duffel bag and turned toward his private office elevator.
BOOM!
The heavy mahogany double doors of his office exploded inward, off their brass hinges, shattering into splinters across the carpet.
Julian screamed, dropping the duffel bag as four heavily armed men in black tactical gear flooded into the room, their weapons raised.
Through the dust and rain-slicked doorway stepped Adrian Vale.
He wore no tie. His white shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, stained with Elena's blood. His dark eyes held no human warmth—only an absolute, terrifying void.
"Julian," Adrian said smoothly, walking across the carpet like a shadow.
Julian backed up until his spine hit the floor-to-ceiling glass window, trembling violently. "Adrian! Listen to me! It's a mistake! I was framed!"
Adrian didn't slow down. He walked straight up to his COO, grabbed Julian by his expensive silk tie, and slammed his head violently against the thick glass window.
