Chapter 8 - THE MONSTER AWAKENS|

Adrian slowly stood up from the bedside. He carefully laid Elena's cold hand back onto the white blanket, smoothing down her sleeve with absolute gentleness.

When he turned back to face the two police officers, the broken, weeping husband had completely vanished.

In his place stood the man who had spent twenty years building an underground logistics empire—a man who knew how to handle violence long before he ever wore a tailored suit.

"Officer Miller," Adrian said, his voice dropping into an icy register that made both officers sit up straight. "Who owns the Depository 4 freight yard where that truck was stolen?"

"It's managed directly by your Chief Operating Officer, Julian Vance," Miller replied.

"And who oversaw the private security detail for that depot?"

"Julian Vance's private firm," Detective Vance added, narrowing his eyes. "Mr. Vale, if you know something—"

"I know everything," Adrian interrupted coldly.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out his primary phone, and dialed a number he hadn't called in three years.

The line rang twice before a raspy, dangerous voice answered: "Boss?"

"Marcus," Adrian commanded into the receiver. "Assemble the full detail. Eight men. Arm them. Meet me at the corporate tower in twenty minutes."

"Understood, Boss. Are we cleaning house?"

"We're burning it to the ground," Adrian said, cutting the call.

Detective Vance stepped forward, placing a hand on his holster. "Mr. Vale, you cannot take the law into your own hands. We are building a federal case!"

Adrian walked past both officers without even looking at them. "You have thirty minutes to follow my tail lights, Detective. If you get there late, you'll just be picking up the trash."
