Chapter 7 - TARGETED AMBUSH|

Inside ICU Room 3, the rhythmic, mechanical hiss-click of the ventilator was the only sound breaking the silence.

Elena lay motionless in the center of the room. Her pale hair was spread across the white pillow, silver wires monitoring her chest, a thick clear tube extending from her dry lips. Her face was marble-white, scratched and bruised, but strangely serene.

Adrian dropped to his knees beside her bed.

He didn't care about his custom suit hitting the floor. He took her small, cold hand between both of his, pressing it against his cheek, bathing her skin in his warm, silent tears.

"Elena," he whispered against her palm. "I read the letter. I saw the picture."

The heart monitor beeped steadily. Beep... beep... beep...

"I am going to fix this," Adrian promised, his dark eyes locking onto her quiet face with lethal intensity. "I am going to destroy every single person who brought you to this bed."

The door to the ICU room clicked open quietly.

Officer Miller stepped inside, accompanied by a tall man in a dark trench coat holding a silver badge.

"Mr. Vale," Officer Miller whispered. "This is Lead Detective Vance from the Major Crimes Division. We need to speak with you immediately."

Adrian didn't release Elena's hand. "Speak."

"We recovered the telemetry data from the flatbed truck that struck your wife's car," Detective Vance stated, pulling out a small notebook. "The truck didn't just run a red light, Mr. Vale. The onboard GPS shows it was parked around the corner from Mrs. Vale's lawyer's office for forty-five minutes before she walked out. It accelerated directly into her driver's side door the moment her vehicle entered the intersection."

Adrian’s jaw clenched so hard his teeth groaned. "It was an execution attempt."

"Yes," Detective Vance confirmed grimly. "And someone inside your company gave the driver her exact location."
