The Shattered Cage

He turned her around, lifting her chin so she would look deep into his eyes. Those eyes that had once been filled with panic, trauma, and loss were now nothing but a tranquil lake of peace.
"I used to live without a tomorrow, Elena."
Alejandro said, his forehead resting against hers.
"Throughout all the years of searching for you, every day was just a battle to survive. Until you came back... you brought tomorrow back to me."
Elena stood on her tiptoes, wrapping her arms around his neck, and placed a deep, long kiss on his lips, brimming with love.
Down below, Aurora tripped and fell on the soft grass. The little girl didn't cry; she stood up on her own, dusted the dirt off her hands, and then laughed joyfully again, continuing to chase the brightly colored butterflies.
They didn't have to run anymore.
There were no more enemies lurking in the shadows.
There were no more secrets buried under the facade of power.
All that remained was love, forgiveness, and a complete family.
