Chapter 7 - The Files of the Empire

Renata took a terrified step backward, suddenly wanting to be as far away from Julián as possible.
In the second row, Doña Elvira frantically crossed herself, her hands trembling violently. But she wasn't praying for Claudia. She was praying for her son.
Esteban Lira, the quiet, unassuming lawyer, opened a massive, thick black briefcase.
He pulled out a heavy stack of documents, completely covered in red evidentiary tags. He placed seventeen separate, meticulously organized folders onto the table.
"Your Honor, we request permission to submit new evidence to the court,"
Esteban stated professionally.
"Granted,"
Judge Aranda replied immediately, his eyes locked on the scars.
As Esteban began passing the first heavily documented file to the bailiff, Julián realized his catastrophic, fatal mistake.
