Chapter 14 - The Rats Flee

Renata scrambled backward, physically pushing herself away from the defense table, desperate to distance herself from the sinking ship.
"I don't know anything about this!"
Renata shrieked, waving her hands frantically at the approaching federal agents.
"I swear I didn't know! I only signed the papers he explicitly told me to sign! He promised me a clean life! He lied to me!"
But the meticulous stack of documents sitting on the judge's desk told a completely different story.

The documents outlined luxury apartments purchased entirely with embezzled corporate funds. They detailed lavish international vacations paid for using the company’s critical research and development budget. They contained hundreds of cruel, mocking text messages about Claudia.
And, most horrifyingly, they contained the preliminary legal drafts of a conspiracy to have Claudia declared mentally incompetent, an insidious plot designed to legally strip her of her shares and lock her away in a psychiatric facility forever.
