Chapter 19 - UNANSWERED LETTERS|

Inside the library of Millhaven Institution, Beckett Hail sat at a long metal table, wearing a faded orange jumpsuit.
In front of him lay a stack of white paper and a blue ballpoint pen.
He had written twenty-four letters over the past eight months. Every single one had been returned unopened, stamped in red ink with the same message:
RETURN TO SENDER: REFUSET BY RECIPIENT.
He picked up the pen and began to write once more:
Dear Imara,
I don't expect you to forgive me. I know I destroyed our home, our marriage, and my own life. I see your face every time I close my eyes in this cell. I hear the sound of that glass breaking at the hotel.
I read about the opening of Threshold Commons in the facility newspaper. You looked beautiful. You built what I could only ever dream of owning.
May you like
Please... just send me one picture of Maya. Just one.
He folded the letter, placed it into a fresh envelope, and pressed his forehead against the cold metal table, weeping silently in the dark room.
