Chapter 18 - THE REBUILDING|

Autumn returned to the city, turning the leaves along Rosedale’s quiet streets into shades of amber and gold.

Imara bought a beautiful, three-story brick house overlooking a ravine park—funded entirely by her project royalties from Vanguard Capital.

In her top-floor studio, light streamed through skylights, illuminating long drafting tables covered in new architectural renders.

Roa Chabi stepped into the room, carrying two glasses of iced tea.

"You look peaceful, Imara," Roa said, setting a glass on the drafting table.

"I am," Imara smiled, adjusting a blue scale model of her next project—a sustainable library for Montreal. "For the first time in my life, I own everything I build."

"Beck’s lawyer called my office today," Roa mentioned casually. "He’s applying for early parole next spring. He asked if you would consider allowing supervised visitation for Maya once he's released."

Imara set down her drafting pen. She walked over to the large window, watching Cassian playing in the autumn leaves in the backyard with his nanny.

"Tell his lawyer," Imara said calmly, "that when Maya is old enough to read the court records, she can decide for herself if she wants to meet him."
