Chapter 17 - DARIO’S FALLOUT|

While Imara’s name was being celebrated across the city, Dario Shimansky sat in a small, windowless office at the Ministry of Attorney General.

She was wearing a plain gray sweater, her designer bags long sold to pay for her defense lawyers.

Across the desk sat a senior investigator from the Architectural Accreditation Board.

"Miss Shimansky," the investigator said, flipping through a file. "In light of your testimony regarding the stolen CAD files from Hail Development, your professional license has been permanently revoked."

Dario closed her eyes, biting her lip. "Permanently?"

"You are barred from practicing architecture in Canada," the officer replied flatly. "Furthermore, the city has filed a civil suit against you to recover seventy-five thousand dollars in fraudulently collected consulting fees."

Dario stood up, her hands shaking as she grabbed her handbag. "I was just following Beckett’s instructions!"

"You chose to put your name on someone else's life work, Miss Shimansky," the investigator said without looking up. "Choices have consequences."

Dario walked out into the grey afternoon rain, completely alone, her career burned to ashes.
