The tension cracked when Julian realized Clara was not moving. Furious, he turned toward the back seat of his car and pulled out their five-year-old son, Leo.

"Fine," Julian sneered, gripping the little boy's hand tightly. "Stay here in the dirt. But Leo comes with me. You can see him when you learn how to be a proper wife."

Clara fell to her knees on the gravel. The threat of losing her child shattered her remaining strength. She wept helplessly, paralyzed by the sheer, suffocating weight of the financial and emotional leverage her husband held over her. She believed she had already lost.

The narrative perspective shifted, focusing entirely like a camera lens pushing into a tight close-up on the young boy.

Leo stopped walking. He dug his small sneakers into the gravel, resisting his father’s pull.
