Chapter 14

Chapter 14: The Perimeter
Julian did not wait for the lawyers.
Just before dusk, a sleek silver sports car skidded to a halt on the gravel outside the heavy iron gates of the Rest House. Julian stepped out. He was dressed in a bespoke suit, but the tie was loosened, his hair was disheveled, and his face was flushed with frantic, unhinged entitlement.
He marched up to the wrought-iron bars, grabbing them with both hands.
"Clara!" he screamed, his voice echoing violently over the peaceful grounds. "Get out here right now! You are embarrassing me!"
From the shadows of the front porch, Adrian stepped forward.
He didn't storm down the driveway. He walked with a heavy, grounded, and perfectly measured stride. He stopped five feet from the gate, sliding his hands casually into the pockets of his jeans.
Julian glared at him through the bars, his chest heaving. "Open this gate. That is my wife and my son in there."
Adrian’s face remained completely stoic. Not a single muscle twitched in anger.
"You are trespassing on private property, Julian," Adrian stated, his voice carrying no heat, only an immovable, absolute boundary.
"I have rights!" Julian shouted, spittle flying from his lips, his acting erratic and desperate. "I have money! I will buy this entire block and bulldoze this pathetic charity to the ground!"
Adrian looked at the man. He saw right through the expensive suit and the loud threats. He saw a hollow, terrified bully who had just realized that his currency of fear was entirely worthless on this side of the fence.

"You don't have enough money to buy back the respect you burned, Julian," Adrian said softly.
He didn't raise his fists. He simply pulled a small remote from his pocket and pressed a button. The heavy steel privacy shutters on the inside of the gate slowly began to slide shut, mechanically blocking Julian from view, leaving him screaming into a wall of solid, unyielding metal.
