Chapter 49 - Leo

At 6:14 AM, the room filled with the sharp, beautiful sound of a newborn's cry.
"He's here," the doctor smiled, placing the small, wriggling baby onto my chest.
I looked down at my son. He had a tuft of dark hair and massive, curious eyes.
"Leo," I whispered, touching his tiny, perfect hand.
Mark leaned over us, kissing my forehead, his face wet with tears. "He's perfect."
I closed my eyes, feeling the warmth of my son against my skin.
I remembered the cold, crushed metal of the tunnel. I remembered the absolute certainty that I was going to die in the dark, pregnant and alone.
