Chapter 43 - The Glass Atrium

The wedding day was flawless.
The botanical garden was in full bloom, the glass walls of the massive atrium letting in the brilliant spring sunlight.
Clara was the flower girl, wearing a dress the color of pale tulips, her light-up sneakers flashing beneath the tulle hem.
Alex sat in the second row. When I walked down the aisle, he smiled, giving me a small, respectful nod.
Mark stood at the altar, looking at me like I was the only person in the world.
When it came time for the vows, Mark didn't just speak to me. He crouched down and looked at Clara.
"I promise to always protect you," Mark told my daughter. "I promise to always keep the doors open, and to always leave a light on when it's dark."
Clara hugged him fiercely.
