Chapter 31 - The Vows

The day of the wedding was flawless. The sky was an unbroken expanse of azure, and the ocean was a gentle, whispering backdrop.

A small gathering of our closest friends—the community that had helped us clear the roads after the storm, the regulars from the restaurant, the people who knew our true hearts—stood on the sand.

When the string quartet began to play, I stood beneath the driftwood arch. My heart pounded against my ribs, not with anxiety, but with an overwhelming, transcendent joy.

Elena walked down the makeshift aisle of sand, wearing a flowing, unembellished white dress that caught the sea breeze. She looked like an angel that had decided to walk among mortals. Lily walked ahead of her, proudly tossing petals, beaming with a missing front tooth.

When Elena reached me and took my hands, the rest of the world simply faded away.

"I take you, with all your yesterdays," she whispered during our vows, her eyes locked onto mine. "And I give you all of my tomorrows."

"I promise to be your harbor," I replied, my voice breaking with the sheer magnitude of my love. "In every storm, in every calm, until the end of my days."
