Chapter 21 - The Grand Opening

Six months later, The Anchor officially opened its doors.

The transformation was breathtaking. The exposed brick walls were adorned with my mother’s vibrant maritime paintings. Warm, Edison-style string lights hung from the exposed wooden rafters, casting a soft, amber glow over the rustic oak tables.

The opening night was a blur of joyous chaos. The restaurant was packed with locals. Elena commanded the kitchen like a maestro conducting a symphony, sending out plates of seared scallops, fresh oysters, and her signature garlic-herb bread.

I managed the front of the house, pouring wine, shaking hands, and ensuring every guest felt like they were dining in our own home. Seeing the smiles on people's faces, hearing the clinking of glasses and the roar of happy conversation, filled me with an overwhelming sense of pride.

Late in the evening, when the rush had finally slowed, I caught Elena's eye across the room. She looked exhausted, her apron stained and her hair tied back in a messy bun, but she was beaming. I walked over and kissed her right there in the middle of the restaurant. We had done it.
