Chapter 14 - The Final Audio

|
The screen flickered again. The grainy dashcam video from the Grand Orion Hotel began to play. The timestamp clearly read 2:15 AM on the night of my alleged attack.
On the screen, a violently drunk Savannah stumbled into the frame, her heels catching on the concrete edge before she crashed headfirst down a flight of stairs. She lay at the bottom, bruised and swearing, holding a glowing cell phone to her ear.
Then, the state-of-the-art ballroom speakers roared to life with the digitally enhanced audio.
"I’ll just say that crazy bitch Margaret did it!" Savannah’s slurred, vicious voice boomed through the room, echoing off the crystal chandeliers. "Richard promised me half the company once she’s locked away! I want my money!"
The audio repeated twice, freezing on a high-resolution frame of Savannah’s face as she laughed into the phone while sitting at the bottom of the stairs.
A panicked bridesmaid backed away so quickly she tripped, slamming directly into the ten-tier crystal champagne fountain. The massive glass structure wobbled for a second before crashing down onto the marble floor with a deafening, catastrophic shatter. Thousands of glass shards and streams of sticky, expensive champagne flooded the stage, soaking the hem of Savannah’s gown.
Richard completely lost his mind. He lunged wildly toward the laptop on the media table, screaming like an animal, trying to rip the cables out. But two burly state troopers caught him mid-stride, slamming him face-first against the marble floor right in the middle of the spilled champagne and broken glass.
"Get off me!" Richard roared, his face pressed against the wet floor. "Margaret! You psychotic bitch! I’ll kill you!"

I walked over to where he was pinned down, stopping right beside his head. The expensive suit he wore was soaked in sticky wine, his hair matted with sweat and glass dust.
"Careful, Richard," I murmured, leaning down so only he could hear me. "You're ruining your suit. And you won't be needing Tom Ford where you're going."
