Chapter 13 - The Screen of Truth

The ballroom lights dimmed slightly as the projector hummed to life. High-definition images flooded the massive screen, illuminating the horrified faces of the wealthy crowd.
There, projected thirty feet high for everyone to read, was the original, unedited medical intake file from Westbridge Private Clinic.
The clinical stamp was clear and official.
Patient: Savannah Brooks.
Pregnancy Test: NEGATIVE.
Blood Alcohol Content: 0.18.
Diagnosis: Superficial contusions and bruising resulting from an accidental physical fall.
The room collective gasped. Friends of Savannah stared at the screen, their mouths wide open in disbelief.
"That's fake!" Savannah screamed hysterically, her eyes bulging as she pointed at the screen. "She made that up! She bought that from a hacker in prison! Richard, tell them!"
Jasmine stepped forward, her voice ringing clear and steady through the microphone attached to the podium.
"I was the triage nurse on duty that night, Savannah," Jasmine said, looking down at her from the stage. "I personally took your blood sample. There was no fetus. There was no miscarriage. The only thing fake was the altered medical record your clinic director manufactured after Richard transferred seventy-five thousand dollars to his offshore account."
Beatrice tapped a key on her laptop. Immediately, bank wire transfer receipts flashed on the screen alongside the official medical document, showing the exact date, time, and routing numbers connecting Richard’s company to the corrupt doctor's private account.
"No... no, no, no," Richard mumbled, shaking his head frantically, backing into the floral arrangement and knocking over a vase of white lilies.

"You framed her," Prosecutor Miller said, stepping up to Richard, his jaw set in disgust. "You made a mockery of my office, you manipulated the court, and you put an innocent woman behind bars to cover up your financial crimes."
"It wasn't just the medical record," I said quietly, stepping toward the center of the room. "Show them the hotel video, Beatrice."
