Chapter 8 - Dialing 112

|
Without taking my eyes off Rafael, I tapped the emergency call icon on my phone screen and dialed 112.
The phone rang twice before an operator answered. "Emergencias 112, cuál es su emergencia?"
"Good evening," I spoke clearly and calmly into the microphone, my voice echoing across the silent restaurant. "My name is Elena Morales. I am currently at Restaurante Aurelia on Calle de Alcolá. I have just been physically assaulted and threatened by my husband, Rafael Delgado. There are witnesses and security camera footage available."
Rafael froze as if struck by lightning. "Elena, stop! Hang up!"
"The suspect is still present and acting aggressively," I continued into the phone, ignoring his panicked shouts. "I require a police unit to file an immediate report."
"Stay where you are, Señora," the operator responded instantly. "A patrol unit is three minutes away."
"Thank you," I said, ending the call.
Mariana looked at me as if I had suddenly transformed into a monster. "You called the police on your own husband?! Over a little wine?!"
"It wasn't over wine, Mariana," I said softly, setting my phone on the table. "It was over three years of emotional abuse, financial exploitation, and the belief that I would absorb your cruelty forever."
Rafael backed away, looking around the restaurant like a trapped animal. The two security guards shifted their weight, casually blocking the main exit corridor so he couldn't leave.

"You're crazy," Rafael whispered, his voice trembling. "You've completely lost your mind."
"No, Rafael," I replied, standing up straight despite my stained clothes. "For the first time in three years, I have finally found it."
