By Wednesday afternoon, the video of Rafael throwing the wine had been viewed over two million times on social media platforms. The public outrage was immediate, with prominent women's rights advocates and business leaders calling for a boycott of Rafael's wealth management firm.
At 3:00 PM, Lucía called me with big news.
"The Tax Agency just launched a formal investigation into Rafael and Mariana Delgado," Lucía announced over the speakerphone. "The financial evidence you provided was handed to the fraud division yesterday. They've frozen all of Mariana's accounts in Andorra."
I leaned back in my office chair, looking out at the skyline of Madrid. "Have they served the warrants?"
"They are serving them right now," Lucía said, chuckling softly. "Rafael’s firm just issued a press release confirming his immediate termination."
Without my salary funding his lifestyle, and with his mother’s offshore accounts frozen by federal auditors, Rafael was facing total financial ruin.
