Chapter 15 - Confrontation at the Office

|
On Monday morning, I walked into the lobby of my employer, Meridian Capital, where I worked as a Senior Financial Analyst. I had taken three days of administrative leave, but now I was back, dressed in a sharp white power suit, my hair styled impeccably.
As I approached the glass elevators, a figure stepped out from behind a decorative marble pillar.
It was Rafael.
He looked terrible. His suit was unpressed, his tie was loose, and dark circles hollowed his eyes. He looked like a man whose world was cracking beneath his feet.
"Elena," Rafael called out, taking a fast step toward me.
Before he could reach me, two building security guards stepped forward, blocking his path with stern expressions.
"Sir, you need to stay back," the guard warned.
"Elena, please!" Rafael shouted over the guard's shoulder, his voice filled with frantic desperation. "You have to pull the evidence from the court filing! The media got hold of the video tape! It’s everywhere on Twitter!"
I stopped, turning around slowly to look at him.
"The video speaks for itself, Rafael," I said quietly.

"My firm suspended me this morning!" he yelled, his hands shaking. "The partners said I’m a liability! My mother is having a nervous breakdown! Is this what you wanted?! To destroy my family?!"
"You destroyed your family the moment you decided that hitting a woman was an acceptable way to win an argument," I said. "I am simply letting the world watch you face the consequences."
