Chapter 9 - The Fallout

"Majority shareholder?" Dominic laughed hysterically, looking around at the board members. "Evelyn owns nothing! She got a flat cash settlement in the divorce!"
"A divorce agreement you never legally finalized because you forgot to pay the court filing fees," Simone corrected him, pulling a stamped court record from her stack. "You were so busy planning your lavish wedding with Celeste that you let the thirty-day filing deadline expire. Evelyn is still legally your wife, Dominic. And under state law, all marital assets—including your primary stock options—are frozen pending a forensic audit."
The board members gasped. Two of them immediately stood up and walked toward Simone to inspect the document.
"This is ridiculous!" Dominic screamed, his voice breaking. "I built this company! My name is on the building!"
"And your name is also on three offshore accounts in Panama," Simone added casually, dropping a second folder onto the table. "Which Mr. Victor Vance just handed over to the Securities and Exchange Commission forty minutes ago."
Dominic collapsed back into his leather chair as if all the air had been sucked out of his lungs. His hands shook uncontrollably as he stared at the board members, who were already stepping away from him as if he carried a contagious disease.
"Effective immediately," Simone declared, looking down at Dominic, "you are suspended from all executive duties at Vale Hospitality. Security is waiting outside to escort you off the property."

Two heavy-set security guards stepped into the room, grabbing Dominic by his arms and hauling him out of his chair.
"Evelyn!" Dominic screamed into the hallway as he was dragged away. "Evelyn, you can't do this to me!"
