"The board voted unanimously this morning," Simone reported, watching me in the rearview mirror. "They officially removed Dominic from the board of directors. Victor Vance stepped in as temporary chairman to stabilize the stock price."

"And Victor kept his word about the restructuring?" I asked, looking out at the autumn trees.

"Every single word," Simone confirmed. "Victor bought out Dominic's remaining shares for pennies on the dollar during the emergency liquidation. But here's the best part... Victor transferred ten percent of those newly acquired shares directly into a trust fund for Clara."

I looked down at my daughter, who was fast asleep, unaware of the corporate war that had been fought over her birth.

"So my daughter now owns more of Dominic's former empire than he ever did," I said softly.

"She's officially the wealthiest infant in the state," Simone laughed. "And Dominic? He's staying in a cheap motel near the airport, ducking process servers and press reporters."

My phone chimed with a private call.
