Chapter 4 - The Investor's Wrath

The silence in the ballroom was so heavy you could hear the fizz of the champagne glasses.
Victor Vance stood up slowly. He was six-foot-two, broad-shouldered, and completely terrifying when crossed. He looked down at Dominic as if he were a bug on his polished leather shoes.
"A baby?" Victor asked softly.
"Victor, listen to me," Dominic said, sweat breaking out across his forehead. "Evelyn lied to me! She hid the pregnancy to sabotage the merger! She's mentally unstable—"
"My daughter is standing in front of three hundred people with no wedding ring on her finger," Victor interrupted, his voice dropping into a low growl. "And you are talking to me about an ex-wife?"
"The merger is safe!" Dominic insisted, pulling his tablet from his jacket. "The papers are ready! Once we sign the agreement tonight, Vale Hospitality merges under Vance Global, and—"
"There will be no signing tonight," Victor said flatly.
Dominic froze. "What?"
"My legal team will review your company's books again tomorrow morning," Victor declared, looking around the room at his wealthy associates. "And if I find one lie... one single irregularity... I will not only crush your business, Dominic. I will make sure you never work in this country again."
Victor turned to his daughter, offering her his arm.

"Come, Celeste," Victor said gently. "We are leaving."
The entire Vance family walked out of the ballroom, leaving Dominic standing alone beneath the crystal chandeliers as two hundred guests pulled out their phones to record his public downfall.
