Chapter 8 - The Emergency Board Meeting

|
At two o'clock that afternoon, the executive boardroom on the top floor of Vale Hospitality was filled with panic.
Dominic stood at the head of the mahogany table, sweat soaking through his shirt collar as he pounded his fist against the wood.
"We just need forty-eight hours!" Dominic shouted at the six board members sitting around the table. "I can convince Victor to come back to the table! It was just a family misunderstanding!"
"A family misunderstanding?" one senior board member spat back. "Dominic, the city business journal just ran an article titled Groom Flees Wedding to Intimidate Ex-Wife in Maternity Ward! Our stock dropped fourteen percent at the opening bell!"
"We can spin it!" Dominic insisted frantically. "We'll release a statement saying Evelyn is demanding an unreasonable divorce settlement! We'll call it an extortion attempt!"
The double doors of the boardroom suddenly swung open.
Simone Grant walked in first, holding her leather briefcase, followed by two uniformed court bailiffs.
"I wouldn't recommend releasing that statement, Mr. Vale," Simone announced, her voice echoing through the silent room.
Dominic glared at her, his eyes wild with rage. "Get out of here! This is a private board meeting!"
"Actually, it's a public court serving," Simone replied smoothly, stepping up to the head of the table. "As of one hour ago, the Delaware State Court issued an emergency injunction freezing all corporate bank accounts under Dominic Vale's personal signature."

Dominic turned white. "You can't do that!"
"We can," Simone smiled, dropping a thick legal packet onto the table. "Because the majority shareholder, Mrs. Evelyn Vance, has just called for an immediate vote of no confidence."
