Chapter 6 - The Long Road to Recovery

The following weeks were a grueling marathon of forensic accounting, legal battles, and massive internal restructuring at the Sterling Foundation.

I essentially lived in my office, working eighteen-hour days alongside Arthur and a newly hired team of fierce, incorruptible lawyers. We tracked every single stolen dollar through the labyrinth of Eleanor’s offshore shell companies.

We discovered that she had diverted over twenty million dollars that was earmarked for a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center for wounded soldiers.

"We managed to freeze roughly fifteen million in the Cayman accounts," Arthur reported one evening, sliding a thick financial dossier across my desk. "But she spent a significant portion of the rest on real estate, luxury vehicles, and bribes."

"Then we liquidate everything she owns," I replied, rubbing my exhausted eyes. "We auction her jewelry, her cars, the condo she bought for Veronica. I want every single cent returned to the foundation."

"It will be a lengthy legal process," Arthur warned gently.

"I have time, Uncle Arthur," I said, looking out the massive window at the city skyline. "She stole my father's life. I will spend the rest of mine ensuring his legacy is completely restored."

The work was exhausting, but it was profoundly healing. With every fraudulent account we closed, with every corrupt executive we fired, I felt my father's spirit breathing a little easier.
