Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Purge

After finishing my statement at the FBI office, I met Arthur at the towering glass headquarters of the Sterling Foundation.

The atmosphere in the building was electric with absolute panic. The news of Eleanor's arrest, along with the arrest of the Chief of Police and the foundation's primary legal counsel, had sent shockwaves through the corporate offices.

Arthur and I walked directly into the executive boardroom on the top floor.

Twelve board members were already seated around the massive mahogany table. These were the men and women who had smiled at Eleanor, rubber-stamped her fraudulent expense reports, and actively turned a blind eye when she locked me out of the building.

When Arthur and I entered the room, the hushed, terrified whispering instantly died.

"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen," Arthur announced, leaning heavily on his brass-handled cane, yet projecting the aura of a five-star general.

I walked to the head of the table, pulling out the massive leather executive chair that had belonged to my father. I didn't sit down immediately. I stood behind it, placing my hands on the leather back, looking at every single person in the room.

"Effective immediately," I said, my voice cold, clear, and uncompromising. "The previous administration is dissolved. The forged will has been nullified by a federal judge. As outlined in my father’s true, legally binding final testament, General Pendelton and I are assuming joint, permanent control of the Sterling Foundation."

A man near the end of the table, a wealthy local developer who had been particularly friendly with Eleanor, cleared his throat nervously.

"Scarlett, surely we can discuss a transition period—"

"There is nothing to discuss, Mr. Harrison," I cut him off sharply, staring him down until he physically shrank back into his chair. "Every financial ledger from the last six months is currently in the hands of federal forensic auditors. If you knowingly approved any of Eleanor’s offshore transfers, you will be receiving a subpoena by Friday."

I paused, letting the terrifying reality of my words sink into the room.

"If, however," I continued, lowering my voice to a deadly whisper. "You were simply too cowardly or too incompetent to notice that millions of dollars meant for disabled veterans were being stolen right under your noses... I suggest you tender your resignations before I finish my sentence."

Within three minutes, eight board members stood up in complete silence and walked out the door, leaving behind only the few who had been genuinely terrified of Eleanor's reign.

The purge was complete. The foundation was finally ours again.
