Chapter 2: The Hidden Archive

For a week, Julian played the role of the oblivious husband with Oscar-worthy precision. He brought Elena flowers. He listened to her talk about their "future." He even mentioned his upcoming business trip to Tokyo, the one he knew she would jump at to execute her plan.
"You should go, darling," Elena said over dinner, her eyes gleaming with greed. "You look so tired. The stress is really getting to you. I’ll handle everything here with Lily."
"I think you’re right," Julian said, sipping his wine. "I’ll fly out Tuesday. I’ve left the signed documents for the medical power of attorney on the study desk. Just in case, you know... I don't want Lily to be alone if something happens to me."
He watched her pupils dilate. He had dangled the bait, and she was already swallowing it whole.

That night, while Elena slept soundly, believing she had won, Julian was working. He wasn't going to Tokyo. He was contacting the best criminal defense and family law attorneys in the state. He was uploading every recording, every piece of financial evidence, and the signed affidavit from the house manager whom Elena had tried to bribe.
He was building a cage, and he was leaving the door wide open for her to walk right into it.
