Chapter 15 - The Midnight Raid

The rain fell in heavy, relentless sheets as Julian sat in the back of the unmarked FBI surveillance van, staring at a bank of glowing monitors. Next to him, Special Agent Reyes adjusted his headset, his eyes locked on the live feed coming from a microscopic camera hidden on David’s lapel.

On the screen, David knocked on the door of the luxury apartment. Elena opened it, wearing a silk robe, looking furious and impatient. "You are an idiot, David," she hissed, pulling him inside. "How could you let the accountants flag the transfer? I told you to route it through the shell companies in Cyprus!"

"I'm sorry, Elena, the new security protocols Julian installed caught the anomaly," David stammered perfectly, sweating profusely. "We just need your digital biometric key to override the freeze. If we do it now, the money moves before the banks open."

Elena sneered, walking over to a sleek laptop sitting on a glass desk. She typed in a rapid sequence of passwords and then pressed her thumb against a biometric scanner attached to the hard drive. "There. The authorization is complete. As soon as this settlement clears tomorrow, I am taking that little brat of his to court just to watch him suffer."

In the van, Agent Reyes nodded sharply. "We have the digital handshake. The fraud is confirmed. Move in."

Within seconds, heavily armed federal agents breached the apartment door with a deafening crash. "FBI! Nobody move! Step away from the computer!"

Elena shrieked, stumbling backward as laser sights painted her chest. David immediately dropped to the floor, hands behind his head. Elena looked wildly around the room, her mask of untouchable superiority shattering into a thousand terrified pieces.

Julian stepped out of the van and walked slowly into the apartment, the rain dripping from his coat. Elena locked eyes with him, realization dawning with brutal clarity.

"You set me up," she whispered, her voice trembling with absolute venom.

"No, Elena," Julian replied coldly, looking down at the woman who had tried to destroy his daughter. "I just let you hang yourself."
