Chapter 11 - The Accomplice
Marcus Vance did not disappoint. Within twenty-four hours of receiving the traced IP address, the private investigator was sitting in Julian's office, tossing a thick folder onto the desk. "I staked out the downtown apartment," Marcus said, pouring himself a cup of black coffee. "Elena isn't acting alone. She has an accomplice, and it's someone you know very well."
Julian opened the folder, his eyes scanning the high-resolution surveillance photographs. The images showed Elena walking into the luxury building, completely disguised in a trench coat and dark glasses. But the next set of photos showed a man exiting the same apartment building an hour later. It was David Sterling, Julian’s trusted chief financial officer.
"David?" Julian whispered, the betrayal burning like acid in his throat. David had been his right-hand man for a decade, the architect of Julian’s massive corporate wealth. "Are they having an affair?"

"It’s worse than an affair," Marcus replied grimly. "It’s a financial conspiracy. David has been slowly siphoning funds from your offshore accounts into a blind trust that Elena controls. The cameras in your house? David bought the equipment using a corporate expense account. They aren't just trying to take Lily away to torture you; they are systematically draining your empire. Once Elena secures partial custody, they plan to trigger a massive embezzlement scheme and disappear, leaving you bankrupt and tied up in family court."
Julian leaned back in his leather chair, the entire architecture of his life crumbling around him. The woman he married and the man he trusted with his fortune were working together to destroy him. But instead of despair, a cold, calculating clarity washed over him. They thought he was an oblivious, grieving father. They thought he was weak. Julian picked up his phone and dialed his lead attorney. "Sarah, change of plans. Let’s pretend to negotiate with Elena. I want them to think they are winning."
