Chapter 16 - Scrubs in the Mansion

Two heavy guards carefully rolled a high-backed wheelchair into the room.
Sitting upright in the chair was Alfonso Marquetti. Though frail and pale, he was dressed in an immaculate black suit, his white hair combed back neatly, his dark eyes burning with fierce, undeniable authority.
The room fell into an instant, dead silence. Every captain stood up out of instinct, bowing their heads out of deep respect for the man who had built their empire.
Bruno’s smile completely vanished, his jaw clenching tightly.
"Don Alfonso," Bruno stammered, recovering his composure. "We... we did not expect you to attend in person."
Alfonso ignored Bruno, his sharp gaze sweeping across the room. He looked at Vivian Rossi, who held her head high with arrogant pride. He looked at Isabella Vance, who shrank back behind her father. He looked at Clarissa Miller, who was busy checking her reflection in her phone screen.
"Marisol," Alfonso’s voice echoed clearly through the quiet room. "Bring her in."
The side entrance of the conference room opened.
Adeline Whitaker walked into the room. She was wearing her simple, worn navy blue nurse's scrubs, her hair tied back in a neat ponytail, holding her small medical bag.
She looked around the room in utter confusion, staring at the sharp suits, the glinting diamonds, and the cold, intimidating eyes of nine mafia bosses staring back at her.
"Don Alfonso?" Adeline asked softly, stepping closer to his wheelchair. "Is something wrong? It's not eight o'clock yet. Are you feeling ill?"

Bruno slammed his hands onto the table, his face turning bright red with rage.
"What is the meaning of this insult?!" Bruno roared, pointing a shaking finger at Adeline. "Alfonso, have you completely lost your mind?! That is a common servant! A penniless, nobody nurse!"
